Female Artists Making A Claim in 2019.

In the last few years, there’s been plenty of noise around the lack of recognition of woman in music. And for damn good reason! The woman of the industry are outstanding in every way, shape and form. Think of Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Adele or Erykah Badu. These ladies are pillars of female empowerment, special talents who’ve carved out careers, showing us all that it’s possible for women to get wherever they want, irrespective of a male-dominated society.

Being International Woman’s Day, we thought we’d shine a light on some other artists that have and will continue to do glorious things in 2019.

Billie Eilish

At only 17 years of age, Los Angeles local Billie Eilish (Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell) is already off to a flying start. How about ‘Pirate’ for a middle name! The first record she ever released, ‘Ocean Eyes’ has now been streamed almost 215 million times on Spotify alone. After a hugely successful EP release ‘don’t smile at me’ in 2017 and a sprinkle of singles ever since, this March Eilish is dishing up her debut album When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

There’s something about this young woman’s quirky brand of pop that’s got the world hooked. Ms Eilish will be tackling a tonne of dates in Europe this February and March. Keep doing what you’re doing Billie, it’s great to see a young woman releasing out-of-the-ordinary art, that a vast chunk of the world is vibing!

Nina Kraviz

Call her ‘queen of techno’, the gorgeous Nina Kraviz has conquered a lot in DJ stakes. From playing sets atop the Eiffel Tower to the Great Wall Of China, there’s really no feat you’d put pass the Siberian. Kraviz is a full-time nomad, giving up her personal life to please masses of dance fans the world over. Respect Nina!

Amidst all this organised chaos she also runs the successful Трип (pronounced ‘trip’) imprint. A label that’s renowned for its free-flowing approach to techno and events. No deadlines. No boundaries. I mean they once threw a party in an Icelandic cave!

If you’re looking for a driven individual in today’s scene look no further. Pick a city in the next few months and Nina’s more than likely stopping by. 2019 will be just like 2018 and we love it. Full steam ahead!

Peggy Gou

If we were to give a gold medal to one person on the club/festival circuit from last year, it'd be Peggy Gou. And you know what..!? The Berlin-based Korean looks like she’ll be on the podium again in 2019. After relentlessly touring the world and releasing ‘It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)', which became a festival anthem overnight, we eagerly await her next pot of gold. Peggy has flawless taste in music, fashion and everything in between. Whenever she takes to the decks it’s like she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! And that’s why we love her. Yes, her name was abuzz last year but just you wait for the hype she’ll bring over the next 12 months!

Ella Mai

Say hello to the everyone’s new favourite songstress Ella Mai, at only 24 the young Brit has just landed herself a Grammy award for ‘Best R’n’B Song’. Not bad for a buddying teacher who was picked up by DJ Mustard and 10 Summer Records via Instagram. Mai said she didn’t believe it at first thinking she was part of an elaborate prank. You better believe it, Ella, you’ve got a gift for writing top-notch tunes. Rolling Stone envision special things for this prodigy, having this to say about her track ‘Boo’d Up’ — “ one of the biggest singles by a breakout female R&B singer in the past 10 years.” Having also earnt the respect of heavyweights such as Kehlani and Bruno Mars, after supporting both on tour, the sky’s the limit we feel. Dip into her self titled album, it’s smooth as butter.

Girl In Red

Marie Ulven AKA Girl In Red is a name we think you should be acquainted with. Hailing from Norway, this young lady writes beautifully honest records from the comfort of her bedroom. In a short space of time, these tracks have taken her much further than the four walls of home. She’s warmed the stage for Clairo in Paris and Dublin and has upcoming tours across Europe and the US w/ Conan Gray booked in. In a similar vein to Snail Mail or Courtney Barnett, her tales are relatable, from speaking candidly about relationships to simply just feeling down, Ulven shares her soul. Get wrapped up in some day-to-day stories, this girl in red’s got quite the year ahead!

‘What in the world would we do without women?’ Practically nothing. The givers of life, love, art and so much more. This is an example of just 5 ladies who are destined for a big 2019.
