Pedagogický workshop: HIT BY NEWS

The program for teachers offers two approaches to working with and experiencing mass media. The first approach involves careful comparison and engagement with history. The second approach involves actively incorporating contemporary art from the current exhibition HIT BY NEWS, collaborative creation, and subsequent reflection.

Program:
2:00–3:30 PM The History of Reading
The theme of reading and the development of reading skills cuts across many subjects. How exactly can we harness this potential? The history of reading and related media transformations offer a possible path. The workshop traces the evolution of reading practices in relation to the technologies used—from parchment to digital media. It also compares various reading strategies shaped by the culture of their time—for example, alongside the Christian lectio divina, it highlights reading competitions for the Julius Fučík badge. The historicization of reading and the history of media represent a functional and effective way to promote interdisciplinary approaches.
The workshop will be led by Kamil Činátl (Faculty of Arts, Charles University).

3:45–6:00 PM DJ Curator: HIT BY NEWS
The DJ Curator educational program aims to introduce the role of the curator in the contemporary art scene and highlight the importance of selection and choice. The extensive exhibition project HIT BY NEWS demonstrates two distinct layers of specific selection. The first is represented by the collection of Annette and Peter Nobel from Switzerland, which contains over 2,000 works of art focused on the dialogue between art and the press; the collection continues to grow. The second layer is represented by the arrangement of several hundred selected works within the exhibition itself, in a physical space and with a fixed number. Against the backdrop of the HIT BY NEWS exhibition, workshop participants will explore the crucial role that “selection” plays in the art world. To choose means to select, to decide, to definitively determine—skills that are essential not only for the art world but also for life in today’s world, which is oversaturated with visual stimuli.
